The Wooton Family Story
    Larry and Waynette Wooton married in 1959 in their home town, Lovington, NM. They have four children, Benny, Kyle "Smiley", Craig and Crystal. 
    Larry and Waynette moved to Roswell to start a horse sale at Roswell Livestock Auction then owned by Dale and Kay Rogers in August 1982.  In 1984 Larry and Waynette Wooton bought RLA from Dale and Kay Rogers.  In 1985 Benny and Cindy moved from Elida to Roswell and became a part of RLA.  In 1986 Smiley and Shannon moved to Roswell from Clovis to become a part of RLA.  Craig was a part of RLA until 1993, when he moved to Seattle, Washington.  Crystal married Rudy Tarpley and they have 2 sons, Joshua and Matthew.  Crystal, Rudy and Matthew live in Stephenville, TX. Crystal teaches at a private school and Rudy teaches at the college.  Josh is going to College back east.   

   Larry past on in January 2007.  Waynette still helps out at RLA during horse sales and at the Ranches.

    

Benny runs the yards, starts cattle on sale days, talks on the phone (alot). Cindy works in the office.  They have 2 children Will & Shelby.  Will is married to Toni and they have 3 boys, Brighton - 6, Braxton - 4, and Brody 2.  Will works with Benny and Smiley at RLA and on the ranches.  Toni has just graduated with an education degree and waiting until fall to teach. Brighton is in Kindergarten, Braxton and Brody are going to Generations of Learning. Shelby is married to Destry Moss they have 2 boys, Grady - 3 and Tripp - 8 weeks old.  Shelby works for Ganaway and Assoc. Accounting firm and currently working on getting her CPA.  Destry works for Mack Energy Corp.  Grady is going to Tad Poles.

Smiley runs the trucks for RLA Trucking and the one you hear on the radio giving the weekly market report.  Smiley is serving as a County commissioner.  Shannon is the Home Economist/4-H agent of Chaves County.  They have 4 children.  Kyla, Kade, Kelsey and Kullen.  Kyla is a hair dresser and married to Cade Hooten. They live in Muleshoe, TX.  Cade is a Farmer and Rancher.  Kade Wooton is going to college at West Texas at Canyon.  He day works, shoes horses, rides broncs and rides the horses through the sale ring during horse sales.  Kelsey is going to college at Eastern New Mexico State University in Portales, NM and she is working at a Child Development on Campus.  Kullen is in the 10th grade at Goddard High School, he plays Football for Goddard. He works at RLA, day works.


 
Along with running Roswell Livestock Auction and Roswell Livestock Auction Trucking, Benny and Smiley run a couple of ranches, the L7 and the Bosque Grande.  They are located North of Roswell.  Benny also runs his own cattle on the Pierce Ranch North of Roswell and Smiley also runs his own cattle on some wheat and has a place leased North east of Roswell.  

The whole family Volunteers their time to various Clubs.  Smiley is currently President of CCRA. (Chaves County Rodeo Association) Benny is currently Treasurer of CCRA.  CCRA puts on Rodeos. They help put on a High School Rodeo, 4-H Rodeo, Team Ropings, The New Mexico Championship Ranch Rodeo, The Chisum Challenge and a local Ranch Rodeo. Not only do they put them on, but they also compete.  The L7 ranch Rodeo Team has qualified and gone to the WRCA finals to compete 4 times. Benny is the also the director of the Steer barn at the Chaves County 4-H and FFA Fair.
